A fun weekend away...Flamingo Land

Last Friday we headed off to Flamingo Land for the weekend with a few friends, we'd planned it spur of the moment over drinks and it really creeped up, I even had to make a mad dash into town on Thursday morning to get a few bits I needed. We stayed in our friends tent and it really is camping luxury; electricity, straighteners, fridge, cooker, heater, iPod dock, 3 bedrooms, kitchen, living room and porch! I am however not a perfect match for camping. I hate bugs. I hate flies. I hate spiders. I hate cold. Oh and I really hate the toilet and shower blocks! We only stayed two nights and the weather was fine so I survived!

It was lovely to appreciate the weather like you wouldn't have at home, having breakfast alfresco and a BBQ for supper.

Inside Flamingo land is great, a lovely park. All of the areas around the rides are really nice and themed. The zoo is a great part, only small but lovely to have a wander around. We had a great laugh in the aquarium, although we've been many times before and know the Sea Lion show spiel off by heart we had never ventured in. It was slightly dark and dingy with fake plants dangling from the ceiling so I approached with caution and still managing to scare myself by stepping on a rather noisy metal sheet in the floor. We were more than a little scared walking through on our own but had a great time inside.

We spent a lot of time in the quaint little pub at the far end of the park and even found a Starbucks! Which I was beyond excited at as I was madly craving a coffee frappachino on the way. It tasted so good.

Pick n Mix!

On Saturday night we ventured just a minute outside of Flamingo Land to the local pub and restaurant. The food was gorgeous. There was a lovely atmosphere and we sat and had a few drinks after and watched the locals playing a game of darts and the Olympic gymnastics on the T.V. Perfect.

It was a really great, fun weekend!!

An Afternoon Project

Last week I fancied a little sewing project so off I poped upstairs to raid my fabric stash, fired up the sewing machine and rustled up a cute little cushion. I'm obsessed with cushions, my bed is full of them, the sofas are full of them and quite frankly I love making them!

I decided on a small floral print front and contrasting spots for the back, I love the combination of colours!

I then jazzed it up a bit with a freestyle applique rose design using the spot fabrics from the back.

I even finally taught myself how to use the button hole stitch on my machine YAY! and added two bright green buttons to the back which actually make it look double sided.
Sewing on the buttons

The buttons fit perfect!
I have a 'thing' that when I sit down on the sofa I have to have a cushion to cuddle for comfort and this is the perfect size to cuddle, rest my crochet on and also look pretty on a small wooden chair!

This weekend brings fabric shopping, my sister's dance show and hopefully sunshine!

Have a lovely weekend!

My First Post...

A big hello!! So here it is, I've started blogging! I'm feeling a little shy and like I'm sitting in a little corner on my own, talking to myself! I've wanted to start a blog for a while now but I've finally been given a gentle nudge!

I love craft and baking and general loveliness so this is going to be a journal of all my makes, bakes and ramblings! Hopefully a place full of pretty pictures, interesting tales and anything I'm 'loving'.

So I'm off to teach myself how to pretty up my blog... I may be some time.
